In August 1973 our church Opportunity Shop opened. This August it celebrated 40 years’ service to the church and community. The original shop was in the present church building, but the shop now has its own premises adjacent to the church.

On Thursday 8 August 2013 the occasion was celebrated with a “Ruby” theme. The helpers and some of the customers acknowledged the occasion by wearing red. A sign outside the church was on red cardboard and adorned with red balloons. Una, one of the long-serving helpers, provided a cake and lemon muffins for a special morning tea. The food was served on a red plate and there were red serviettes. It was a real treat! Each customer was offered a pinkie bar, which most accepted in the spirit of the day.

The photo shows some of the Opportunity Shop helpers with Dianne who organised the celebration. The people are from left to right, with years of service in brackets, Irene (14), Dianne, Una (27), Pam (40) and Alison (33). There are many others who have helped over the years, and there are a number who still do so in numerous ways.

We extend a very sincere thanks to all who have contributed to our shop during its 40 years of life, and we look forward to many more years of service.
